“Working at the Tolland Green Market has been a wonderful opportunity for me. It’s

gotten me to learn the ins-and-outs of setting up a booth at an outdoor market, the

importance of communication and punctuality, and the best way to interact with

customers. I’ve greatly enjoyed working outside and taking in the fresh air, even if it

meant the wind would jostle my setup from time to time. Working in my hometown has

also given me ways to interact with a community I once thought would never accept me

and my neurodivergence. When I was younger, I thought kind and accepting people

were few and far between in Tolland because of my troubled past in the school system.

However, this market taught me that kind people are everywhere - sometimes, you just

have to search for them. After all, the best way to improve a community - and by virtue,

your relationships with the people in it - is to be active and make an impact.”
